LYNX HIT THE STREETS FOR FANS
Door hangers aim to lift sales

John Vomhof Jr., Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal, April 27, 2007 - The Minnesota Lynx are taking a grass-roots approach to boosting their season-ticket sales this year. The team is distributing door hangers with information about family-oriented ticket packages to 100,000 homes throughout the Twin Cities.

The door hangers tout the Lynx Family Fun season-ticket package, which offers lower-level seats for $17 a game, and partial-season ticket packages starting at $22 a seat. Fans receive a 33 percent discount, matching Lynx star Seimone Augustus' jersey number, if they order by May 14.

The Lynx hope to attract more families to their home games at Target Center this season. The team drew an average of 6,442 fans a game last year, ranking 12th among the WNBA's 14 teams and setting a new franchise low.

The Lynx are "trying to think out of the box and try some ways to get to people and get their attention, because we know there is so much stuff out in the market and so many options for summer," said Liz Hogenson, director of marketing for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx.

The Lynx worked with New York-based Publicis USA's Boise, Idaho, office on the campaign. The firm previously assisted the WNBA's Seattle Storm.

Power Direct Marketing, a Newport Beach, California-based firm that specializes in door hanger marketing, started distributing the material last week and will continue through next week in targeted neighborhoods, primarily along Interstate 494.

The Lynx also started a radio campaign last week on stations that target families and women ages 35 to 54. The campaign will focus on the family ticket packages for the first three weeks, then shift its focus to single-game sales for the May 20 home opener.
